  • Installation schedule to accommodate airport service intervals

Gatwick Airport

London Gatwick Airport has undertaken a comprehensive wayfinding improvement programme to bring its directional and safety signage in line with European and Worldwide standards. This programme will make recognition easier for the 33 million international travellers that pass through the Airport.

Wood&Wood, working closely with Mansell Construction, manufactured and installed approaching 1,000 signs across the Airport’s North & South terminals in distinctive black and yellow.

The range of sign types consist of:

• Internally illuminated wall mounted signs, extruded in aluminium with yellow acrylic and stencil cut letters.
• Suspended Flexi Face Signs spanning up to 12 metres.
• Triangular suspended signs featuring gate and fire exit information on three sides.
• Tactile signs to assist with access have been installed in public areas.

The project’s challenges include night-time installations with short service intervals to avoid any disruption to travellers and the logistics of working in a high security environment.
