Princesshay
Exeter’s new £225 million Princesshay shopping and restaurant quarter represents the single largest investment in the city. Set in the historic city centre, within sight of the cathedral, the scheme elevates Exeter to the region’s premier shopping destination. Land Securities appointed Wood&Wood to work with Saatchi & Saatchi X to develop, manufacture and install a series of information totems and directional fingerpost signs. These help to guide shoppers around Princesshay’s buildings, inter-connecting streets and pedestrianised open spaces. Using CAD technology, Wood&Wood worked closely with the designers to create 3D virtual prototypes with accompanying 2D manufacturing drawings for approval. Pre-production prototypes of both the totem and fingerpost were then manufactured and installed for appraisal by the client and the public. Once feedback was received, changes were made and the final designs were placed into manufacture.
The end result is elegant and functional signage, specifically designed to complement the vibrant, contemporary surroundings of the new shopping quarter. The totem signs have sheer glass faces with applied high resolution, illuminated, digital prints. Information touch screens employing ‘through glass’ technology are mounted to the inside face of the glass, providing a vandal resistant solution. Surrounding the glass are satin stainless steel trims with inset LED strip lighting. The fingerpost signs have matching satin stainless steel trims with LED lighting.
