Barbican Arts Centre
The signage for The Barbican Arts Centre was a real team effort. Beginning with Cartlidge Levene's wayfinding and concepts, Wood&Wood developed these to a full set of manufacturing drawings that retained the integrity of the original concept. The signage was part of a much larger project to refurbish the Barbican's main entrances and foyers, and improve the general wayfinding.
As a listed building, all improvements had to be visually integral to the existing infrastructure and materials and finishes chosen with due consideration of stringent fire regulations. Careful co-ordination and prototyping has resulted in a very successful refurbishment and signage programme.
