St. Katharine Docks

Signage for a major London tourist destination.

Client St. Katharine Docks

Located in the shadow of Tower Bridge, St Katharine Docks is the only marina in central London. Its luxury yachts and historic barges provide the perfect venue for private and corporate events whilst its waterside restaurants, shops and cafes make it an irresistible draw for tourists and Londoners alike. Wood and Wood were asked to provide monoliths and wall signs to help all visitors enjoy what the area has to offer.

The Challenge

As a major London tourist destination, St Katharine Docks is extremely busy at all times of year so it was vital to ensure that all ground work was carried out safely and to the client’s satisfaction. This was made more challenging by the fact that we were working in an area where the interests and concerns of businesses, residents and local authorities all had to be taken into account. It was our job to make sure that everybody felt involved in the process and were happy with what was being done.

Our Solution

By taking ownership of every aspect of the project, from design through to manufacture, ground works and installation, we were able to guide all parties step by step through each phase. We did this by:

  • Working closely with the Facilities Management Team, landlord/client and designers to make sure all work was carried out to everyone’s satisfaction; this included arranging site meetings for all parties
  • Strictly monitoring ground work to ensure all works were carried out safely by the civil engineering team whilst achieving the required level of site reinstatement
  • Nine monoliths and three wall signs were designed, manufactured and installed by our specialist teams whilst existing signs were also removed.

The client was delighted with the end product but equally as important in this project was the transparency we were able to offer throughout the whole process. Organisation and communication were vital and Wood and Wood’s high level of customer care meant that everyone involved knew exactly what was happening every step of the way.
