Leeds City Council

Wayfinding signage for major West Yorkshire City

Client Leeds City Council

Leeds is a historical city based in the north of England that has redefined itself into a hub for industry and financial services, and has the most diverse economy in the UK with world class arts and culture.

The Challenge

To aid the 1.5M visitors to the city Leeds approached Wood and Wood to develop a new signage totem what could easily sit alongside their original monoliths, that offer greater value for money, whilst still keeping features of usability and updateable. As well as totem design Leeds City Council wanted a fingerpost that would match their existing design.

Our Solution

Wood and Wood developed a glass totem with powder coated finish. The totem holds low iron clear glass with digitally printed graphics mounted internally. All text and graphics are easy to update by removing the glass panels and installing new prints. As all graphics and text are subsurface this results in highly effective clear signing, all vandal resistant with easy clean attributes.

By using the Wood and Wood fingerpost system Leeds benefited from a tried and tested product with lockable fingers ensuring that fingers always pointed in the right direction. The
fingerpost is 316 grade stainless steel with powder coated fingers, with all text applied and overlacquered – a perfect solution offering years of maintenance free wayfinding.
