Center Parcs

Wayfinding, branding and internal signage for the entire £250m, 365 acre forest site.

Client Center Parcs

Center Parcs planned to open Woburn Forest, their fifth village in the UK. It was a large scale project comprising 625 lodges, a 75 bedroom hotel, six Spa Suites and a host of restaurants, shops and leisure activities including Center Parcs’ largest Subtropical Swimming Paradise. Wood and Wood were appointed to manufacture and install all the wayfinding, branding and internal signage for the entire £250m, 365 acre forest site.

The Challenge

The main challenge lay in the scale and diversity of the project. Over 13,000 signs had to be designed, manufactured and installed, including vehicle directional signs, DfT statutory signs, pedestrian wayfinding maps / fingerposts, external entrance signs, building branding, internal signs, maps and information points.

The working environment also introduced its own unique challenge as all signage had to complement the forest setting whilst still being both easily identifiable and resilient. In addition, time scales were also tight, as everything had to be installed and fully operational in time for the advertised opening day.

Our Solution

Wood and Wood’s unique design, manufacture and installation capabilities allowed us to meet all of the client’s requirements on time and on budget. Our meticulous and thorough approach included:

  • Conducting a detailed site survey to establish the range of materials that would be needed across all signage and to determine the appropriate form for all of the varying signage functions.
  • Drawing up designs that were appropriate to the surroundings using materials that blended naturally into their forest environment, whilst still being weather resistant (for example, we were able to paint steel posts in such a way that they gave the impression of a wood finish).
  • The manufacture of all signage at our purpose built facility.
  • Coordinating our specialist installation teams to work on site in all weather conditions to ensure completion by opening day.

It was a complex task that pushed our powers of creativity and practicality due to the many and varied demands of a Center Parcs site, but it was a challenge that the Wood and Wood’s all-encompassing service was well equipped to handle.

We were therefore proud to deliver on all fronts, on time and on budget to the complete satisfaction of the client.
